Gananoque - The 2013 season opener at Brockville Speedway is coming up this Saturday night, and when the first green flag drops to start the season, Jon Mills will have a special guest cheering him on from the stands. 8-year-old Tyler McDonald will be there to cheer on his favorite driver, and will be treated with royalty, being chauffeured around the track for a couple slow laps before the races start or during intermission inside Jon Mills #84 Sportsman.
Mills and the Hot Lick Racing team will be taking up a collection for Tyler’s Relay for Life team, and will be encouraging others in attendance to do the same. Tyler runs his own team in the Relay for Life called TYLER’S TEAM. The lady’s on the Jon Mills team will be out and about through the grandstands on Saturday night collection donations. All money raised will go directly to the Relay for Life.
“Tyler is a great kid, and we want to do everything we can to support him and Team Tyler and the Relay for Life “, says Mills. “We want to give Tyler a memorable night at the track this weekend, and we encourage all the fans and other drivers to help us out.
Tyler McDonald was diagnosed with a brainstem gilcoma (Brain Cancer) on March 4th, 2011. At the time, he was given a year to live, but has beet the odds, now over two years since the original diagnosis and going strong. Tyler will not receive any treatment as chemo cannot get to the brainstem and radiation only buys a few months, but causes a lot of side effects. Tyler currently suffers from constant headaches and dizziness. Some days Tyler cannot walk as the tumor presses on certain parts of his nerves.
