Brockville - The 1000 Islands International Hydroplane Regatta & Festival is set to take place this weekend, June 28th to July 1st in Brockville
The event kicks off on Friday, June 28th at Blockhouse Island with gates opening at 5:00pm. There will be an 80’s theme party on Blockhouse Island with prizes for the best 80’s themed costume. Friday night's entertainment will feature Mark Bergman.
Through-out the weekend there will be food and craft vendors and a Bavarian Beer Garden.
Races begin Saturday, June 29th at 11:00am featuring some of the fastest hydroplanes in North America. The qualifying heats for the 1.5 L, 2.5 L, H350 and Grand Prix will be happening throughout the day. Saturday evening will see a performance by The Willy Stevenson Band, Redline, and Full Nelson on Blockhouse Island.
On Sunday, races begin at 11:00am with the last rounds of qualifying heats. The Finals will begin at approximately 3:00pm with an awards ceremony to follow. Healy and Orr and Chris Hum will be performing on Blockhouse Island after the races.
Weekend passes can be purchased at the gate for $5, with additionally pit passes available allowing entrance to the pits.
On Canada Day Monday, there will be free admission with the gates opening at 9:00am. Featured hydroplanes will be on display with opportunities to sit in the cockpits and get autographs from the drivers. In addition, race-cars from the Brockville Ontario Speedway will be on display throughout the day.
There will also be a competition for "Best Dressed Canadian" in the following categories: child/youth, adult, pet, and boat. As well the boat building contest is back again this year. Local businesses and organizations will compete through-out the day building their boats out of plywood. The boats will then hit the water for a race around 2:00pm.
Local bands Ballad Fiasco and Iconoclast will hit the stage before the Canada Day fireworks set for 10:00pm.
